Quality. Built in.

Building Quality Into
Everything We Do

How colorFabb achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification - and why the journey continues

ISO 9001:2015 Certified  |  June 2026

In June 2026, colorFabb achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification.

It was an important milestone for our company. But the certificate itself was never the ultimate objective.

Our ambition was bigger: to build a quality management system that makes colorFabb a better company - with clearer processes, better data, stronger controls, faster problem solving, greater consistency, clear ownership and a culture in which continuous improvement becomes part of everyday work.

ISO 9001:2015 certification confirms what we have built. Now we continue improving it.

Why We Started This Journey

colorFabb has evolved significantly since its beginnings. Our materials have become more advanced. Our customers increasingly use colorFabb products in professional and industrial applications. Our operations have become more international, while requirements surrounding traceability, product compliance, documentation and consistency continue to increase.

That requires more than great filament. It requires a strong system behind every product we make.

We therefore used ISO 9001:2015 as the framework to further professionalize the way we manage quality throughout colorFabb.

Standardized and compliant products and processes, with clear responsibilities, effective methods and supporting quality systems.

From the beginning, our intention was to integrate the Quality Management System into normal business operations rather than create a separate administrative system alongside them.

June 2026: ISO 9001:2015 Certified

Achieving certification in June 2026 was the result of a company-wide effort.

Teams across colorFabb reviewed processes, documented ways of working, clarified responsibilities, established controls, improved data and introduced new methods for measuring and improving performance.

Our QMS program included workshops to document processes, work instructions, forms, rules and information, while establishing greater transparency around responsibilities and ownership.

Certification did not mark the end of the project. It marked the transition from building our Quality Management System to continuously using and improving it.

More Than a Certificate

Eight connected areas form the foundation of colorFabb's quality management approach.

ISO 9001:2015 provides the framework. How we use that framework determines the value it creates.

Quality StrategyIntegrating quality into management and business reviews.
Quality Issue ManagementSystematically addressing customer complaints, supplier issues and internal process deviations.
Product Compliance ManagementStrengthening regulatory and substance compliance.
Corporate Social ResponsibilityConnecting responsible business practices with our wider strategy.
Data QualityImproving ownership, accuracy and usability of customer and product data.
Quality Management SystemStandardizing processes, documentation, responsibilities and controls.
Quality PerformanceApplying Lean, 5S, PDCA, audits, inspections and supplier performance management.
Environment, Health & SafetyDeveloping structured approaches to safety, health, waste, energy and environmental management.

From Detecting Problems to Preventing Them

Quality management becomes valuable when something does not go according to plan: a customer complaint, an incoming material problem, a process deviation or a product outside specification.

The easy response is to fix the immediate problem. Our objective is to go further: Why did it happen? What is the root cause? Could it happen elsewhere? And what needs to change to prevent it from happening again?

Our Quality Issue Management approach brings these events into a structured process. Issues are captured and monitored, root causes identified, corrective actions defined and improvements tracked. Methods including early-warning mechanisms, quality notifications, Critical Control Points and dynamic inspection rules support this process.

Detect → Understand → Correct → Learn → Prevent
Every problem should ultimately make the process stronger.

Quality Where It Matters Most

More inspection does not automatically mean better quality. Smarter inspection does.

We therefore increasingly apply a risk- and application-based approach to quality control. Critical Control Points and inspection requirements can be determined based on product and purchasing specifications, customer applications and the potential cost and impact of failure.

This allows us to focus our attention where quality matters most: greater process control, earlier detection of deviations and ultimately more consistent products for our customers.

Making Compliance Part of Product Quality

Challenges in environmental product compliance

Product compliance requires control of evolving legislation, standards, customer requirements and supporting data.

Today, product quality goes far beyond mechanical properties, dimensional accuracy or print performance.

Materials operate in an increasingly complex regulatory environment. Requirements differ between countries. Regulations evolve. Industry standards change. Customers introduce their own specifications. Companies need increasingly detailed substance information and supporting documentation.

Our Quality Management Strategy therefore treats Product Compliance Management as an integral part of quality. This includes strengthening the way we manage regulatory and substance information and supporting documentation such as Safety Data Sheets, Declarations of Conformity and RoHS-related information.

Knowing how a material performs is essential. Knowing what it contains, where it comes from and whether it meets the requirements of its intended application is equally important.

Better Processes. Clearer Ownership.

Challenges in environmental product compliance
A visual QMS makes processes, responsibilities and interactions easier to understand and manage.

One of the most valuable outcomes of our ISO journey has been making responsibilities more explicit: who owns a process, who performs each activity, who makes the decision, who needs to be consulted and how we know whether the process is performing as intended.

Our QMS provides the structure to answer those questions. Processes are standardized and connected to clear roles, responsibilities, KPIs, and governance.

Clear ownership → Clear processes → Measurable performance → Continuous improvement
Quality becomes everyone's responsibility.

Quality Has a Seat at the Management Table

One of the most important principles behind our system is that quality cannot operate separately from business strategy. That is why Management Review plays a central role in our Quality Management System.

Our reviews bring together customer satisfaction, quality objectives, process performance, product conformity, non-conformities, corrective actions, audit results, supplier performance, resources, risks and opportunities for improvement.

Connecting Strategy and Execution with the X-Matrix

Challenges in environmental product compliance

During Management Review, colorFabb uses the X-Matrix to create a clear connection between our strategic direction and everyday execution.

The X-Matrix helps us connect strategic objectives, annual priorities, improvement initiatives, KPIs and ownership. Rather than viewing quality objectives as isolated targets, management can see how improvement projects contribute to wider business objectives, who owns them and how progress is measured.

Strategy → Priorities → Actions → Performance → Review → Improvement
Quality management and business management should be one connected system.

Turning Data Into Quality

Good decisions require good data. Data Quality therefore became an important part of our QMS journey.

We established clearer ownership of customer and product data and focused on cleansing, improving and enriching the information behind our operations.

Product information includes materials, categories, Bills of Materials, attributes, content and applications. Customer information can provide insight into profiles, segments, purchasing behaviour, product behaviour, opportunities and cross- and up-sell potential.

Better data leads to better decisions - and better decisions lead to better quality.

Continuous Improvement Is the New Starting Point

Challenges in environmental product compliance
Management review and process control turn quality information into structured actions and improvement.

Certification provides confirmation that a Quality Management System meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2015. It does not mean that everything is finished.

Our Quality Management System combines practical improvement methodologies including Lean, 5S, PDCA, auditing, inspection, supplier performance and process KPIs.

The objective is not more bureaucracy. It is to make good processes easier to follow, deviations easier to recognize, decisions more fact-based and improvements easier to implement.

Quality Also Means Responsibility

Our approach extends beyond products and production processes.

Environment, Health & Safety is part of our wider Quality Management Strategy, covering areas including air, water and waste management, energy management, occupational health, workplace hygiene, employee safety and incident management.

Our CSR activities also include policy development, alignment of our supplier Code of Conduct and connecting responsible business initiatives with the wider colorFabb strategy.

Becoming a better manufacturer means looking not only at what we produce, but also at how we produce it.

What Does ISO 9001:2015 Mean for Our Customers?

More consistent products

Standardized processes and stronger process controls help us reduce variation and improve consistency.

Better traceability

Improved material, product and quality data provide greater transparency throughout our processes.

Faster and more structured problem solving

Quality issues are investigated systematically, with greater emphasis on root causes and prevention.

Stronger supplier quality

Supplier performance, incoming inspection and quality issues become part of the same improvement system.

Greater compliance confidence

Product compliance and documentation are managed as an integral part of product quality.

Continuous improvement

Quality performance is measured, reviewed by management and connected to improvement actions.

Certified in 2026. Improving Every Day.

Achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification in June 2026 was an important milestone for colorFabb.

But our Quality Management System was not created to earn a certificate. It was created to help us build a stronger company - one that learns from problems, uses data to make better decisions, makes responsibilities clear, connects strategy with execution, controls critical processes, listens to customers, develops its suppliers and continuously challenges itself to improve.

The certificate confirms that we have established the system. What we do with that system next is what really matters.

Engineering Materials. Improving Processes. Raising the Standard.

colorFabb has always been driven by material innovation. Our ISO 9001:2015 journey adds another dimension to that ambition: operational excellence.

It connects our people, products, processes, suppliers, data and customers in one continuous improvement system.

Because innovation creates exciting materials. Quality builds long-term relations.
