LW-PLA

LW-PLA, short for "Lightweight PLA," is an invention by colorFabb designed for 3D printing applications where reducing the weight of the final printed objects is crucial. This filament is particularly well-suited for printing items like RC (Radio-Controlled) planes, cosplay props, and other lightweight components. What sets LW-PLA apart is its active foaming technology, which allows it to achieve a lower density and reduced weight in 3D prints while still maintaining adequate strength. This means that when you use LW-PLA, the resulting parts are incredibly lightweight, making it an ideal choice for applications where weight is a critical factor. LW-PLA offers the advantage of being easy to work with after printing. It can be cut, trimmed, and sanded with ease, allowing for post-processing and fine-tuning as needed.

The DO-31 Project

@joelvlashof was so kind to invite us to his workshop, where many amazing projects are born. His workshop is an absolute dream and would make many makers among us pretty jealous. Joel uses a variety of 3D printers, laser cutters and has plenty of space for storing filaments.

The DO-31 project is incredibly impressive. For its size, it’s surprisingly light due to smart construction and the use of our signature LW-PLA. We can’t wait to see it doing its first test flight!
